Two Couples Arrested Over Viral Video of Domestic Helper Assault
JOHOR: Two married couples were arrested in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, after a video showing domestic helpers being assaulted went viral on social media. The arrests took place in Taman Johor near Tampoi, with the couples, aged 30 to 34, being apprehended by the Johor Criminal Investigation Department and the Johor Bahru Utara district police. The incident, which allegedly involved three domestic helpers, is believed to have occurred on July 26 of the previous year. The background of the case involves two female suspects who are siblings and lived with their spouses in the same residence.
The police seized various items, including mobile phones and CCTV footage, as part of their investigation. The incident has drawn significant attention online, highlighting ongoing issues related to domestic worker abuse. "The video was recorded by one of the victims but only surfaced on social media yesterday. However, the motive behind the incident remains under investigation," he said. The broader implications of this case highlight the need for more stringent protections for domestic workers and raise concerns about the treatment of helpers in private homes.
